How do we know anything? How do *I* know who I am? I believe that gets
into the philosophical area called epistemology, the study of knowledge
and distinguishing between justified belief and mere opinion. For
someone who boasts a lot, I am very quick to declare that I have
virtually no knowledge of epistemology. When I say that I am ignorant
about something, that is never a boast.

Perhaps you could look at davidillig.com or primordial-light.com or
flickr.com/photos/primeval, all of which contain photos of me. Perhaps
my favorite is this one

made about nine years ago, though.

My nature photos appear on the Encyclopedia of Life and Maryland
Biodiversity Project web sites, and you may find my photo of
Diestrammena asynamora in the Kaufman Field Guide to Nature of New
England, published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, and available from
Amazon and other on-line sellers.

You would probably say that I'm boasting, while I would say that from
the epistemological viewpoint the above statements are simple facts,
demonstrably true.

Still, that doesn't /prove/ what my name is. I have three or four
expired U.S. diplomatic passports, souvenirs from a different life,
which prove my identity to the satisfaction of the U.S.G., but I cannot
post reproductions of those for security reasons. I'm in on-line phone
listings, an on-line State of Maryland real-property database, and
other on-line sources. I am /not/ the David Illig who appealed a
second-degree murder conviction in the State of Nebraska.

So, if you don't accept my claim as to who I am, you will just have to
go through life wondering. There aren't many other David Illigs in the
country, but there are a few. BTW, if you're googling, I'm not the
hypnotist, either. Try astrophotography, nature photography,
woodworking, that sort of thing.

And I do consider it both cowardly and rude to hide behind an alias.
