I found another difference during my trip to Canada. I Spain I have a prepaid SIM with no data plan. The SIM is "loaded" with a number of euros, and each call detracts from this amount, per minute. If I don't make calls, the SIM is valid for close to a year. So essentially I have a number for receiving calls for about 5€ per year. But in Canada the prepaid cards they offered were per month.
