Or it could be that BECAUSE applications these days are complex, things 
can very easily go wrong. Maybe I'm more outspoken about such incidences 
that other people.

With Peazip, it would go wrong if invoked in certain ways; I think if 
listing the download files via the browser, clicking on a .tar.gz file, 
you would get a Peazip icon on the taskbar, but nothing else (even after 
closing all other windows to make sure there was no dialog box lurking 
behind the others). Closing that icon would make it crash.

But I can't recreate that now; the .gz files seem to have disappeared, 
and some associations have been changed. However, if I click on .zip, 
Peazip will start, even though I've disassociated that file type in that 
app.

I'm not clever enough to know how to influence how such applications 
behave. If something screws up, it won't be my (ie. the user's) fault.

(BTW if you want an example of a program that's really temperamental, 
try running The Sims 4. That is actually not so bad (it only crashes 
after powering up from hibernation), but it can only be run via a 
program called Origin. And with that you just have to cross your fingers 
that it will eventually work.

On-line forums were full of people having similar problems with myriad 
solutions suggested, which means there was no definitive reason for the 
failures, and it's not my fault either! Actually, I couldn't get it to 
work at all on one machine, so I had to switch computers so the kids 
could still run that game.)
