Please take note of the fact that the master & slave configuration only
exists for parallel ATA devices ─ commonly referred to as IDE drives,
even though all modern drivers, including SCSI and SAS, are IDE devices.
Modern computers typically come with one or multiple SATA drives, where
the master & slave paradigm no longer exists. In addition to that, all
recent Linux kernels treat all attached hard disks as SCSI devices ─
hence the /dev/sd? designations ─ and the drives are enumerated by the
kernel in the order that they are found. Therefore, for consistency,
partitions should be labeled and addressed in /etc/fstab and friends by
their filesystem label or by their UUID.
