Why do you want to do this. Perhaps if you told us what you really want
to do, rather than your proposed solution, someone could suggest a
better way of accomplishing it. 
A spare drive slot is not worth anything in and of itself.

The system will tend to number them by "the first drive I come across is
sda" In fact sometimes it will number them differently on different
days, or different times in the boot process. This is why the move to
UIDs and labels.
