Sure, the * sign was added by me for illustration purposes only.

The * is often left away, because no sign means multiplication by default.

And multiplication of vectors means scalar multiplication by default,
unless you write e.g. an 'x', if you want a cross product.

If he wanted to treat velocity as a scalar, he had to write that.
Possibly he could have mentioned amount or similar.

But there are some physical quantities, which are always regarded as
vectors.

Here we have: force, velocity, acceleration, electric and magnetic field
strength.

Without comment, these quantities are vector quantities.

If you want to use a scalar like speed, you have to explicitly say so.

Einstein's notation would be marked as error in any possible
circumstances in colledge physics.

But Einstein's error is actually high-school level, not even university.

Sure.

But his name for the z-component of the magnetic field strength vector
was 'N'. Better would have been a name like B_z or similar.

He also called the magnetic field itself 'N', even if a vector component
is not a field or a force or whatever else Einstein had in mind, because
as Einstein wrote it, N would be a number.

But at least N should be a vector, because the particualr case was about
sideways acceleration of an electron passing by along the x-axis.

Since the path of the electron gets curved into the xy-plane, we need
actually a vector (and not just a number) to generate this curvature.

I'm wrong by default, while Einstein is correct for the same reason.
