I dislike that as well, but that's not what Alan is complaining about.

Alan wishes SMS messages would display on the phone first even when you
are using another device.

You wish that devices other than the one you are actually using wouldn't
display a notification at all. While that might be nice, it might also
cause you to miss a notification. I think Apple is erring on the side of
caution to ensure you actually will see the message.

I disagree. The best scenario is that the message appears on the device
you are actually *using* first. I can see how one might not want to see
an audio/visual notification on other devices, but again, I think Apple
does this to cover all bases on the off chance you aren't actually at
the device they think you are currently using.

I disagree. I see no need for my phone to display any message first when
I'm not even in the same room. How would I benefit from that?
