I think that's why all of the trades show "average growth" instead of the demand driven growth of other occupations (can't factor recessions into "projections") > A missing dimension in the BLS data is geographic region - pay scales I think there was a "tab" for that but I didn't dig deeper. As I said, my interest was to show "the kid" the range of pays instead of just arbitrarily *picking* a career choice "in the dark" (though that's how *I* ended up where I am... totally serendipitous! :> ) [Years ago -- decades? -- a neighbor's son wanted to go into psychiatry. His (accountant) father was livid and "threw me up" as an example of what a STEM degree/occupation could afford: "Have you ever seen Don go off to work??" *That* seems to have worked well as he pursued a CS degree and is now in Project Manglement.] > in NYC exceed those in the South by a factor. Note the trend in education seems to be to produce what employers are looking for *today*. I guess the thinking is to replace your workforce tomorrow with folks who have tomorrow's skills... <shrug> [This is particularly true of the trades impacting high school curriulae, "boot camps" teaching programming languages/frameworks /du jour/, etc. Maybe they hope the employee will take the initiative to "remain current"? If not, <shrug>, let his reduced pay raises drive him elsewhere...
