Yes, it would be misleading to imply that straightforward mappings are
required.  So it's fortunate that nobody has implied any such thing, and
that both Barry and I have repeatedly said that they are not.  I believe
you are misreading Barry's statement.

Would you agree that permitting (not requiring) straightforward mappings
is part of (not all of) the rationale for the way C is specified?
