... or the Perl example I was using elsewhere:
$sum += $_ for 1 .. 10;
It's sometimes helpful to use something other than the default variable in
Perl and many people do so as a principle as they've been trained[*] to
avoid 'global variables'.
[*] English seems somewhat lacking here, as 'to train' apparently
encompasses both 'ausbilden' -- teach an apprentice how to perform some
task -- and 'dressieren' -- train an animal perform some 'trick'. I
meant the latter.
In former times, people have been hanged (or burned at the stake) for
lesser ethical/ moral transgressions than refering to artefacts of strong
typing as 'line noise' :->. And other people invented more elaborate
lines noise as in
-----
#include <iostream>
int main()
{
for (auto i : { 1, 2, 3 }) std::cout << i << "\n";
return 0;
}
----
with 'auto' starring as "yes, the compiler can infer the type, however,
you still have to work around the parser" ...
