The (comic) tragedy of SQL is that it was suposed to enable people to do
database queries without having to learn an imperative programming
language first. But people who aren't programmers don't want to learn
SQL. They want their application programmers to deal with this. And
their application programmers already know how to program in an
imperative programming language and don't want to learn SQL, either.
