The only RDF here is the one you are trying to inject into the conversation. Computers have always needed adapters for this and that, particularly when industry shifted from one standard connector to another. And that applies more to portables than desktops since portables typically have fewer built-in ports due to miniaturization. We happen to be in the middle of a transition from legacy USB connections to USB-C at the moment, and (as usual) Apple is moving to the new standard faster than others - a move that makes sense considering more and more peripherals are moving to USB-C over time (eventually *most* will be, and considering Macs tend to have longer average life spans than Wintel PC competitors.
