I home school my kids and look at lot of this stuff up.

To me if the punctuation is not a part of the quote it should not be in the
quote. US English says it should be, though, at least in some cases. To me
that is insane. I do sometimes try to do it the US way, but then go back to
the British way which makes more sense to me.
Also notice that different books my kids use do or do not use the Oxford
comma. I teach them to use it but note the lack of consistency.
