Technically the iOS devices maybe in a "class of their own", but they
certainly aren't in a market of their own. Just like Macs are competing
with boxes running Windoze, Linux, or Chrome, the iOS devices have
competition with the various other devices from other manufacturers,
including Android and Windoze mobile devices.

Having said that, Apple doesn't care what other companies are doing.
They make the products they want to make and sell them for the price
they want to sell them at. Apple has never been and isn't interested in
market share for the sake of it ... if they were, they could almost
afford to simply give Macs and iOS devices away and make money from the
app and content sales.
