Those numbers a plain misleading.

There may well have been "140,000 Windows viruses" in 2008 in total,
but the vast majority of them so ancient that they couldn't infect any
modern Windoze box.

Plus, if you're going to use a total figure like that, then in 2008
there certainly were viruses "for the Mac" since there were some old
ones for OS 9 and earlier and some for OS X ... even though the chances
of actually getting infected by one were, and still are, basically nil
(you've probably got more chance of winning the local lottery every
week for your entire life).
