Back in the early 1990s I remember Andy Nicholas building GS/ShrinkIt on a Mac under MPW, cross-compiling it, and sending the output to a IIgs over AppleTalk/AppleShare for testing. This was a whole lot faster than compiling it under APW.

I had AppleShare set up from a Linux box using netatalk and a Farallon EtherWave device through the IIgs serial port once upon a time, but these days you have other options (http://a2retrosystems.com/). I haven't tried to set up file sharing for a while though.
