Hello world" cr ;] execute ; : Hello :NONAME ." Hello world" cr ; execute ; Yes, Forth has "references" in order to match IF..THEN thingies. It works as well for : and ;. You can even define: : Hello : World ." Hello world" cr ; ; .. for that reason, but since it doesn't leave an address, it only works if you do "world". In short, this program: : Hello1 [: ." Hello world" cr ;] execute ; : Hello2 :NONAME ." Hello world" cr ; execute ; : Hello3 : World ." Hello world" cr ; ; Hello1 Hello2 Hello3 World .. renders: ---8<--- Hello world Hello world Hello world ---8<--- Hans Bezemer
