Correct. And consider what the consequences of doing that might be on 
your nice ITC dictionary:

| head of T | docol | head of X | dovar | value of X | exit |

To make that work at all, you'd have to have the IMMEDIATE version of 
VARIABLE "know" if it's compiling, and compile some kind of branch over 
X. Everything would get excessively messy, and all for no conceivable 
benefit. It's even worse with compile-to-code implementations.

Trust us, all defining words must be non-immediate and make individual 
standalone definitions of whatever kind!
