This is not at all correct. People have been asking for a dark mode on
the Mac since at LEAST 1995. Possibly longer. Not many people, but some
persistent people.

No one at Apple is saying you should switch to dark mode, but there are
some workflows in which dark mode is much better, This is why, for
example, Aperture, Photoshop, and countless other photo apps use a dark
mode.
