It is possible, as nospam said, that later G5s could boot USB, but no G4
could. You are wrong/misremembering.

Yeah, I have a MacPro 1,1. It does not boot from USB. I still keep one
FW enclosure on the off chance I need to use that machine (I don't).

If you are mucking about with custom firmware or some such, then that is
something else entirely.
