The actual computer or programming language make NO difference.

From a purely mathematical point of view, if a BINARY double floating
point number is to be written as decimal digits then at least SEVENTEEN
(17) digits must be written to ensure that the original BINARY number
is restored.  This is unassailable mathematical FACT.

I stress here the BINARY representation.

The future trend will be to employ DECIMAL, or base 10, floating
point hardware and then this issue will no longer exist.

But at present, with the exception of IBM Power processors, floating
point hardware is BINARY, or base 2, representation.
