The concept of a "column" does not apply to a text file. A text file is composed of "lines" with each line separated by, guess what, an end of line (EOL) character. That's all there is. Nothing more. You may wish to establish columns in some fashion but you will be entirely on your own. The rest of the world won't know what you are doing. You are venturing into territory known as "rich text format" (RTF) which is not nearly the same as text. So if you want columns, or formatting, or italics, etc. then go with RTF and an RTF editor: https://www.nllgg.nl/Ted
