Yes, the service of dreams, special effects, and personal info
brokering.  The intrinsic merit of these services is something
of which no society should be proud.

The result of this has been widespread computer illiteracy which
has had extremely deleterious consequences.  This is why fax machines,
an antiquated technology, still prevail in most businesses.  This
is why tons of paper are still being pushed within most offices,
even though the US Congress passed legislation authorizing e-documents
and e-signatures for any purpose.  Such progressive ideas cannot
be implemented by the current ignorant work force.  The average
American business is stuck in the 1950's and unable to adapt to
a changing world.

I happen to be involved in free-lance contract work for various
businesses and dealing with these general office throwbacks is 
frustrating in the extreme.  They understand nothing about the
possibilities and potential of software applications.

But now, these same titans that destroyed general purpose computing
for the sake of mass-market convenience are now pushing for
more computer science education.  Gates and Zuckerberg (and Jobs
if he were still alive) have formed some sort of coalition to 
address the abysmal state of computer training in the USA.

Would this be happening if the early PC's had forced all users
to obtain a knowledge of basic programming and digital principles?
