I don't think it is, at least not yet. What you hope to achieve can 
easily be achieved without it. It's something you need to learn, but you 
don't need to learn it *yet*. For now, use a fixed-length buffer that's 
"big enough and to spare". You are very unlikely to need to read a line 
containing more than a few hundred characters, so just set up an array 
that's ludicrously big: say, 2048 characters. Then you can get on with 
your program without worrying about dynamic allocation. We can cover 
that later on.
