Stop and think. What is your goal here? To write a fully robust, 
generic, commercial-quality program that will be used over and over 
again in all kinds of environments? Or is it to learn a little more 
about C? If the latter, I suggest you don't worry about Keith's red 
herring, and focus instead on learning how to do basic parsing, which is 
what this exercise seems to be about.
