If you (like me) think it is a daft idea to have block limiters optional, then always include them in the code you write. Problem solved. If you (like me) think the bitwise operator precedence is silly, then always use brackets or put the bitwise stuff and the comparison in different expressions. Problem solved. If you (like me) think that default fall-through in switches is madness, then use "break" religiously and enable compiler warnings to help. Problem solved. If you (like me) don't like complicated and unclear declarations, then use typedef's as needed until everything /is/ clear. Problem solved. And so on. Just because C lets you write "risky" or illegible code, does not mean you have to write your code that way - even if you have no choice but to program in C. Of course, that doesn't solve the problem of dealing with other people's code.
