To me something like
#define ALL_MAGIC ((1 << 23) | (1 << 17) | (1 << 6))
or, even better,
#define SOME_MAGIC (1 << 6)
#define MORE_MAGIC (1 << 17)
#define HIGHLY_MAGIC (1 << 23)
#define ALL_MAGIC (HIGHLY_MAGIC | MORE_MAGIC | SOME_MAGIG)
much more readable (at least if well-choosen names are used)
than e.g.
#define ALL_MAGIC 0b100000100000000001000000
The latter took me half a minute to type and check and re-
check while I hadn't even to think about the other defines...
