That's closer to the mark. Originally the bounty was $0.01. It doubled 
every year, until it reached $2.56, at which point Knuth exercised 
proper financial judgement by announcing a ceiling. (He immediately 
received a flurry of bug reports from people who'd been saving them up!) 
My own cheque was for $2.56. In latter days, the physical cheques have 
been replaced by an online roll of honour, "The Bank of San Serriffe"
