Python isn't a good example of something having a single implementation. First, you have incompatible versions 2.x and 3.x. Then there are an assortment of versions of 3.0, 3.1, 3.11, ... 3.4, 3.5, ..... (And that's just CPython. Then there is Jython, IronPython, Brython RubyPython, Cython, Pyrex, RPython, Shed Skin, PyPy, etc with many incompatibilities.) Each new version also tends to be slower than the last, for a language not known for its speed in the first place. The choice isn't so simple. With C, the various new 'features' of the new standards just make it uglier IMO (uint_least32_t, _Bool, compound literals, designated initialisers, mixed up declarations and code...). -- Bartc
