Can you expand on that last point? What "tin" are you referring to, and
how does const violate it? Are you referring to the fact that "const"
doesn't mean "constant"?

It's odd to refer to something that's been in the language for 26 years
as an "extension". It's true that it was added to a language that did
not previously had it, but by now it's a fundamental feature. Hardly
any "pre-const compilers" are still in use.
