So, it is booting from the usb, but the structure ifscrewed up. 
Many systems have there "One" drives set up to be bootable, however you
cannot copy the file to the usb, you have to use 
dd
to copy it
dd if=distro.iso of=/dev/sdd bs=1M

Be very very careful as if you put in the wrong of= you WILL destroy
your hard drive (well the contents)
