Yes, they have implemented it for "Windows NT" via the POSIX subsystem. No, they have not implemented it as or via the "Windows API" (but another project has). Nit-pick: Interix isn't suppose to be an "emulation" of anything, to my knowledge; it's a peer to the Windows subsystem. "Much like Cygwin": Sure. A difference: Cygwin lies on top of the Windows subsystem and Interix doesn't.
