If that were true, C++ wouldn't have a (w)string class.  Even a simple 
operation such as

fred.name = L"Fred Bloggs";

has an entirely different effect. (Hint: what type is L"Fred Bloggs"?)

In C at least, it always will be equivalent.  The best way to give the 
human the easiest environment you can is to write clear, idiomatic code.

Well I'm sorry if you can't manage to read the interface.  C++ 
programmers have managed since the last century!
