Yet again your are erroneously extrapolating from your own small niche. 
  Most of the work in my niche (embedded, drivers and UNIX systems 
programming) is structured around objects, many of which are derived 
types of each other.  I have also spent a number of years working with 
GUI code and XML DOM, both of which also fall into that category.  My 
first experience with an OO design was an elegant C GUI toolkit.

Or not so trivial if you consider the alternative C code to achieve the 
same effect.
