How do you implement bignum variables?  What if you want an array of
them?  With regular numbers I often say:

    : make-array ( n "name" ) CREATE cells allot  compiled
    DOES> ( n addr -- addr ) swap cells + ;

to make a simple array that can be accessed with @ and !

That's different from the usual = operation in Forth and could get
confusing.
