Yes, it serves several purposes.  And you may even find other people
prepared to look up the standard and quote the passages to you that
answer the questions you posed.  I'm just letting you know that I don't
fancy doing that.

Utter nonsense.  The groups is full of threads that can not be resolved
by reading the standard and I am sure you know this.
