None the less, they are all part of C's type system. And what about the
qualifiers; surely a minimal type system would not have type qualifiers?

How, then, do you explain that this:

That's absolutely my point. If C's type system were indeed minimal then
it would not have any more distinct integer types than that.

_Bool, char, signed char, unsigned char, short, unsigned short, int,
unsigned int, long, unsigned long, long long, and unsigned long long are
all distinct types. Then there are all the integer types like size_t,
wchar_t and so on, and there may even be extended integer types.
And your "floats" comprises no less than six distinct floating types.
It that minimal?
