I meant the current standard.  Or any standard (I think the relevant
rules for enumerated types are unchanged).  What made you think I was
talking about C89/C90?

I thought we were talking about the language rules, such as the one that
says an enumerated type is a distinct type.  Compilers invoked in a
non-conforming mode tell us nothing about that.
