I want to disagree with this!

IBM loved pipelining! What IBM refused to do again (until recently) was
out-of-order. The 360/65 WAS pipelined, and so were most of the higher
end big mainframes. Memory was both pipelined and banked.

Which were pipelined in any classical sense of the word pipelined!

Confusing the word pipeline--which measn a series of steps that perform
a unit of work--with the word out-of-order--which means that the steps of 
the pipeline can transpire in different order based on other things
going on at the time.
