chemistry is needed for *all* film photography. just how do you think
film works??

ok there's physics in the light hitting the photosensitive coating, but
the bulk of it is chemical. amazingly so too, polaroid in particular.

it might, but most people dropped off their film and got back what they
got back. they didn't choose paper and they probably didn't care what
it was anyway.

the vast, vast majority of people took their film to the store to get
it processed. camera stores made a lot of money that way. it was a
revenue stream that has all but vanished with digital, which is why a
lot of cameras stores have closed.

those who did darkroom work were the exception and that was mainly b/w.
very, very few people did colour darkroom worok, and of those who did,
it was mostly just printing. the negatives were done at a lab, and in
some cases such as kodachrome, it wasn't possible to do it at home even
if they wanted to.

sure, but there's no point in using crappy software when better
software exists.

the comparison is the best of each. not the best of one against the
worst of the other, unless you want a specific outcome, that is.

no, i'm saying that as good as apple's software may be, you can do as
good or better with other software. there's nothing magical about
apple's software.

it's not possible to be better than the source, unless you are turning
it into a painting.

if detail is not there due to over/under exposure or it's blurred
because it wasn't focused properly, then there's nothing you can do to
bring it back. it's gone.

you might be able to paint back in what you *think* was there and it
might even look pretty good, but that's no longer a photo.

apple's software doesn't do anything remotely close to that.
photoshop's content-aware fill sort of does.

once again, you are making a flawed comparison. compare the best of
each not the best of one against the worst of another.
