Colonization of either with current technology is an immensely stupid idea.

If you want to colonize a barren area hostile to human life, colonize
Antarctica; at least there is air and water and relatively easy going
home once you smarten up.

Yes We should colonize Mars,
We can send up our best Men and Womens,
to have Mars babies
of course the high radiation levels will keep them underground 95% of
the time.
and the radiation levels will slowly make them blind, and lose intellegence.
as they expand on Mars they would get dumber
but it seems they would have to be dumb to go somewhere where there is
no air, and no water, and no food for 5 years.
Live in Cans.

Who is "we?"

NASA lied to the kiddies throughout the 60s about going elsewhere.

It was bullshit.

Now they lie to the kiddies about AGW.

Not necessary. Both ideas are bonkers.

What would be our purpose in going to the moon, reber?

It is way less expensive than sending humans to another planet and
the potential payoff from sending humans is the same, i.e. zero.

Anything beyond the Moon should be explored by robots until Star Trek
technology becomes real.

There are no more Saturn V's, all the tooling is gone as is likely are
most of the blueprints, and a lot of things that were off the shelf
in 1960 are no longer available.

oh please, anybody with an average intelligence knows that
mars is the best choice by far. it is stable, and it has all the
element need it to do everything we do on earth

why go into a mine field when you have OLYMPUS mounts in
the horizon!

You mean other than oxygen, nitrogen, water, a livable temperture and
a decent atmospheric pressure?

Then there is the Sun too dim to provide much in the way of solar
power and no available natural fuel sources.

yeah!, you can make everything with those (H,C,N,O,etc) food!,energy,
glass, synthetic materials and remember, C is the star element in all of this!

a dim sun is a good thing!, specially in the years to come and
the earth is going to experience some serious shit from the sun
and let alone venus!, that one will take at least a billion years to
reach some form of equilibrium

Except there is little to no available oxygen, nitrogen, or water on
Mars, all the carbon is in CO2 and there is no readily available power
or fuel to do anything on Mars.

Most synthetic materials come from petroleum, which doesn't exist on
Mars.

The Sun is dim on Mars because it is a long way away and that has
nothing to do with the Earth.

Lethal radiation and other stuff is a problem.

Lethal radiation and other stuff is a problem everywhere off the Earth.

The jimp is correct -- lethal radiation away from the earth, A really
good reason to keep humans at home operating robotic explorers.

Nope, you can shield radiation.

The reason to use robots is they are much cheaper to send somewhere, can
continue to operate far longer and can do anything a human could do
including hit a golf ball for a photo op.

Apollo's purpose was primarily political to show the world the might
of the US. All of the actual science done by the Apollo landings could
today be done in a few robotic missions at a fraction of the (adjusted)
cost.
