Kepler works by analysing light from distant places in the universe
— looking for changes that take place when planets move in front of 
their stars. But the dip in starlight from KIC 8462852 doesn't seem
to be the normal pattern for a planet.

Tabetha Boyajian, a postdoc at Yale told The Atlantic: “We’d never 
seen anything like this star. It was really weird. We thought it might
be bad data or movement on the spacecraft, but everything checked out.”

The light curve of a star has nothing to do with the curvature of spacetime 
that causes light to describe curved trajectories in 3-space.

Instead, it is the curve drawn of the intensity of the light of a star as 
visible to the observer (and their instruments).  So if a planet moves in 
front of the star as seen by the observer, there is a small but measurable 
reduction in the intensity of the star’s light, visualized as a drop, or 
valley, in the star’s light curve.  This allows astronomers to find 
exoplanets (also: extrasolar planets), those in orbit around stars other 
than the Sun (Sol) – about 2000 by now.

Again, it is a very simple optical effect, and you do not need Einstein for 
that; it has nothing to do with the disproof of relativity claimed by you.  
Newton suffices there, even Galilei.  To see how it works, move your thumb 
in front of any light source, say a lamp.  As the (half-)shadow passes over 
your eyes, you observe the light source growing dimmer and then brighter 
again.  If you would draw a curve into a coordinate system where the 
abscissa would specify time and the ordinate the intensity of the light 
hitting your eye, it would look approximately as follows:

And *that* is a light curve.

I've been on Usenet since the 1990s. I have made many friends here
over the years. Sadly, for good or bad, I have never met any of them
face-to-face. All communications were through this device/medium
called writing. Word after word after WORD after ...youKnow.

Nowadays, Usenet posters/authors can also provide detailed web sites.

Physics is my life, not my livelihood. Mahipal is my name, so my
parents tell me. I can still hear my grandmother calling for me out

Mahipal is a ancient Sanskrit name/word with a specific meaning. It's

I think that you are using the word “friend” too inflationatory.  This 
appears to be a common misconception nowadays (consider, for example, 
Facebook, where you can be friends with many of people you have never met).  
I have made many acquaintances online and offline, farther and closer ones; 
but my friends are only a selected few people whom I can count on when I am 
in distress, and who can count on me when they are.

But surely you can see that a single (first) name is more likely to be a 
pseudonym or nickname.  And filters can recognize that.  Granted, it is not

You have a poor choice of "medium" (rather: interface; the medium always is 
Usenet).  Not only is Google Groups on the Web, which requires a Web-to-
NetNews interface (not bad in itself, but in the way Google did it), and a 
source of spam, trolls and other idiots thanks to the negligence or support 
of Google (they do not seem to care about distributed Usenet anymore, 
instead they seem to want to push only their proprietary Google Groups 
groups – nothing more than Web forums under Google’s control); it also 
produces messages that are seriously technically flawed (to the point of 
breaking threads by not using proper References header fields).

Fascinating *philosophy* and story indeed, but not evidence of any *serious* 
work in *physics*.  (Not that this would be required here, but you claimed 
that “[your] life [would be] physics”.  ISTM that you are confusing physics 
with philosophy.)
 
BTW, Einstein first used “L”, then “E”, for energy; never “e” :)  And he did 
_not_ postulate “e = mc²” or “E = mc²” – that is a common misconception; he 
did, in fact, suggest ∆m = ∆L∕c², but in words only.  Only from what was 
later called “special (theory of) relativity” follows E = √((pc)² + (mc²)²) 
from which follows E(p = 0) =: E₀ = mc².  (“e” is reserved for a unit of 
electric charge, and the elementary particle that carries it, the electron.)

I did write you Thomas are my friend. Good luck with that and so sorry
about its ramifications too. I did not mean to make more troubles than

I often walk into a bar, Hi Guys|Dolls|Norm, and make friends with people
whom I just met. Ususally these days, everyone wants, especially them
ladies, to exchange Facebook addresses. Fwiw, I interact only with

dirty joke there. No one discusses physics there either. Figures. Oye.
At least, my real friends and natural family get to know I'm still

So take Google's search results with a grain of salt. Over the past
millenium, there have been countably many Mahipals. Sanskrit is way
older than a mere 1000 years. English is a Sanskrit derivative.

Friends call friends by their first names only. By default, everyone

Words are not an exact science. These days, what is? All that you
wrote is likely true; but I now only interact on one NG. I am not

No I am not confusing Physics, Philosophy, Poetry, Math (PPPM == 3PM).
I am indeed convoluting 3PM by serendipity, but am not confused by them.

My education, for all its worthLessNessIsmIshQ, for one thing news to
me, its apparently got only a seven year shelf life, is an ABD (All
But Dissertation) level in Mechanical Engineering. While aiming to
complete my ME@UMCP PhD I got seriously distracted and signed up for
graduate Physics classes like there was no tomorrow. Lucky for me,
there really was no tomorrow! Jobs relocated me to the smelly armpit
of NJ, USA. I've got transcripts, actual printed paper versions, not
no suave mere pdf either, from UMCP and Princeton to prove I even
actually passed some of their exams! Oye... then I was out job
hunting... had to. Aerospace was either downsizing or outsourcing.

I remember a time when Usenet couldn't handle math symbols. I'm dating
myself. All those silly physics lettered symbols, greek latin or even
not, might as well be icons -- 3D or otherwise. Rise above the Math. I
