So you don't believe a meter is a meter if it's somewhere else? A meter was once defined as a certain fraction of the length from pole to equator. This type of definition is based on planet Earth, but not only in respect to size of the Earth. Also the definition uses only horizontal distances and not - say - vertical. Now we have a definition of the meter by the run-length of a certain beam in a certain fraction of a second. If now gravity had an effect on time, the meter in vertical direction is not equal to the meter in horizontal direction. >> To solve this problem, I assume, what we call 'space' is actually our >> own past light cone. > > That seems irrelevant to me. But it's not. If we look into the sky, we actually look into the past. This is rather far into the past, since we can observe stars billions of light-years away. Now past and future are not the same, hence we have to spaces: one, that we can see and one, where we are seen. These are mainly different in time. And with some degree of certainty we can assume, that objects do not interact, if they do not belong to the same 'time domain'. >> This an assumption consistent with what SRT actually tries to say. > > Nope. Einstein assumed that space is uniform and isotropic. Well, maybe he assumed that. But the question was: what is actually 'space'. I wrote: the concept of Einstein about space would fit to our won past light cone. Such a space is not 'real', since we see actually a picture of something remote in the past. That is as real as a silent movie from 1920. >> But then we must draw the conclusion, that the 'universe' is not that >> universal, but depends on us, as observers. > > Funny, I don't draw such a conclusion. Actually I wanted to say: We take a picture as universal (-> 'universe'), what is just a picture. >> What is universal then? >> >> This was the question, I have tried to solve. > > Um, the speed of light. I tried to explain, that c could be interpreted as an angle in spacetime, if spacetime is assumed to behave similar to an Argand diagram. This angle is actually caused by the similarity between real and imaginary units. >> My assumption: GR is in fact correct and we are part of a universal >> 'thing' called 'spacetime'. Weren't you just saying that physics is not > mathematics? > The idea is similar to 'string theory', because it assumes a fundamental principle. Only it assumes not strings, but a kind of field, where points have features. These points shall behave similar to quaternions and are interconnected like quaternions multiply. I used this principle on all sorts of physical problems and - as far as I can tell - it works quite well. So I tried to identify such a fundamental principle and then tried to find out, whether or not nature uses such a principle. Complex-four-vectors work quite well and I really think, this idea is at least useful. TH
