So that was a success. I'm pleasantly surprised that my ES account works
without any tweaking, considering how many years it is since I last used
it. As NIN is closing down in a year or two's time, eventually ES will
probably become my sole newsreader, so long as it doesn't close too.
I managed to set serv7753.exe to run at Windows start-up, so that's no
longer an issue. There are still a number of minor annoyances with TP v5
however:
1. When I load TP it comes up with a message that the machine's date and
time seems to be a long way in the future, and I have to click on the
message's Ignore button to continue. There was a thread about this here
a year or two ago, and IIRC the problem is that TP v5 tries to
communicate with time servers using a protocol that has been superseded
and is pretty much obsolete. Of course nowadays Windows handles the
whole machine time-keeping thing anyway. At least when I post the time
and date on my post is correct.
2. It then comes up with a message about an "incorrect structure
detected", perhaps because in my initial configuration I went for the
easy option in the drop-down list of "Unknown ISP". But it then comes up
with another Window over the top of the main Connect window, and when I
press on that window's Connect button it connects just fine.
3. When replying to a news post, it asks me to choose whether I want to
follow up in the newsgroup or reply by email. As 99.5% of the time I
want to follow up, that's a little annoying.
4. If I've selected a part of the post that I want to quote, it
unnecessarily asks me if I want to quote just the selected part of the
message or the whole message.
