In case it's useful to anyone, the place where you can find
serv7753.exe, as well as self-installing .exes for TP v5 and v6, is:

https://www.plainfaqs.org.uk/downloads/

It also has Ian Jackson's notes on moving from TP to TB.

I didn't have to do that.

I did indeed have a paid-for version of both v5 and v6, having
originally bought TP before Demon acquired the company and made TP free
for their users. I don't suppose the licensing info could be copied from
my v6 into v5, though, and I think all I have left of my original v5 is
the v5.01 self-installing .exe. It's possible that if I nuked my
installation from the v5.02 .exe that Brian kindly supplied me with, and
installed from my preserved v5.01 .exe, that I might find that it's
licenced and no longer needs the work-around, but I'm not sure if it's
worth the effort.

Indeed. It seems that Richard Clayton might have had an inkling that
closely linking TP to a piece of Microsoft software had the potential to
end in tears, though, as he stuck with v5. (He was no longer part of the
TP development team by then, of course.) I often think ruefully that, if
only Demon had carried on supporting TP for another year or so, then
we'd probably have got an update that would have enabled it to work
under 64-bit Windows.
