Well, we did. It fucking sucks. So we went to Lightroom. And of course, it's pretty hard to find the "don't open fucking Photos when you attach the fucking camera" button and of course, Apple in their ignorance and greed have removed the Preferences from Image Capture. So, we will not be spending any time at all with Photos which righteously sucks; we need a professional useful well-designed application. Sorry to piss on your deities. -- Where's the Vangelis music? Apple have done their best to hide the fix, but it is there in Image Capture. Open Image Capture and attach a camera or memory card with image files. In the Image Capture window, in the lower left corner you will see an icon with an upward facing arrow. click on that icon. A dialog is opened for that camera or memory card with the following: “Connecting this camera opens” + a dropdown menu with options, choose “No application”. The problem is solved and you can just forget about Photos/iPhoto. <https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1295663/FileChute/screenshot_179.jpg> I use Lightroom and If it is open the import dialog opens automatically and defaults to ejection of memory card once the import is complete. If you want to you can add Lightroom as an optional app to open in Image Capture. I don't. -- Regards, Savageduck

Are you talking to me? Read my post again. It should be perfectly clear that whatever his problem is with iTunes, I said Photos is worse. I've reverted to iPhoto, for as long as it lasts or until Apple brings Photos up to the level of iPhoto, which, if this proceeds along the lines of the switch from iMovie HD down to iMovie, will be never. Regarding how to upload photos from the camera, my Canon camera came with a Mac app that loads photos and videos to folders neatly labeled by date. I like to cull my photos and give the keepers descriptive filenames and, when needed, preprocess them in Photoshop Elements before importing to iPhoto. -- John Varela

The oul' Woman quite liked iPhoto, but now she's totally enamoured of Lightroom, which does the same things for her but way better and has a direct link to Photoshop (it's called "Photoshop Lightroom" after all). > Regarding how to upload photos from the camera, my Canon camera came > with a Mac app that loads photos and videos to folders neatly > labeled by date. We've got that Canon app somehwere, but Lightroom will import the stuff any way we want, once it sees the camera. The dates are all in the exif data, which Lightroom will happily read. -- Where's the Vangelis music? Pris' tongue is sticking out in in the wide shot after Batty has kissed her. I have a Canon PowerShot A630. I am on 10.6.8. BTW, how hard was it to get OS/2 installed alongside on your iMac. I have eComStation 2.1.

Yosemite 10.10.3 > I have a Canon PowerShot A630. I am on 10.6.8 I have a Canon S100 that's something over three years old. It came with a CD of Canon Utilities, one of which is called Camera Window and that's what I use to upload from the camera. A look at the web site suggests that Canon now only supports upload via wi-fi. Take a look at your CD if you still have it. If not, I can email you a copy of the program, which may work with your camera. I am posting here with a valid email address so let me know by email if you need it. > BTW, how hard was it to get OS/2 installed alongside on > your iMac. I have eComStation 2.1. I did that so long ago I don't even remember. I run eCS 2.0 under Parallels Desktop. I had written a REXX script to back up my OS/2 system to two (!) CD-RWs of ZIP files, one CD for the system and another for the apps and data. I think what I did was to install eCS from its install disks and then fetched the apps and data from the backup. I have propagated the eCS VM through a half-dozen versions of OS X and at least that many versions of Parallels Desktop. -- John Varela

I still have to use my old laptop with Snow Leopard for foto editing for the same reasons. I have a system of nested folders I prefer for storing them. My Nikon app also lets ME control where they go. iPhoto is just for making albums not dependent on a bloated Camera Roll backup that I can edit on the computer that will then hold still on the iPad. -- Erilar, biblioholic medievalist

If by "it" you mean iPhoto, I haven't had any problem running it under Yosemite. If you mean iMovie HD, that won't run so I have a Snow Leopard partition on an external drive that I use to work with movies. Apps running from the external drive can access files in [Mac hard drive]/Users/Shared. > > Regarding how to upload photos from the camera, my Canon camera came > > with a Mac app that loads photos and videos to folders neatly > > labeled by date. As Photos is part of Yosemite, you do not want to fuck with it. Leave it alone. Don't use it, if that's your choice, but DO NOT attempt to remove it. You can copy iPhoto from an OS X 10.9.x installation, into your Applications directory, via a network connection or a direct connection between the two machine where one is booted into target mode (if that's still possible). As you've demonstrated, these techniques are beyond your skill set. Contact your local "Mac Expert" and ask whether they can perform either of these techniques for you. iPhoto and Photos can coexist under Yosemite. One can use iPhoto, but changes may not be saved to your photo library. This will likely be the case, even if you manage to remove /Applications/Photos.app from your new computer, Woden forbid. It really is time for you to attempt to move on, rather than wishing for the past to magically become the present and future. It ain't gonna happen. -- David Ritz <dritz@mindspring.com> Be kind to animals; kiss a shark. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2 iEYEARECAAYFAlWAYuQACgkQUrwpmRoS3utvPQCfceO3E3Bwuf4KEGKdKNHhS0P2 hIkAoKYEWXnPwyKtaKvCMgAlCd+brsGD =vcEn -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Please do try to read for comprehension. You seem to have missed the part regarding erilar having a new machine, which came with OS X 10.10.x on it, hence all the whining about Yosemite not being Snow Leopard. As such, it doesn't have iPhoto installed. Additionally, eliar's old iPhoto, from OS X 10.6.x, will likely not run on the new box. It is because of these _facts_ that I suggested trying to copy iPhoto from a machine which has the most recent version of iPhoto installed. In retrospect, I could have as easily suggested copying it from any running a version of OS X, on which the most recent version of iPhoto (9.6.1) will run on Intel hardware. Even so, it's possible erilar will encounter registration issues for the software. Changes, in the way things are done, have occurred over the past decade or so. %\ -- David Ritz <dritz@mindspring.com> Be kind to animals; kiss a shark. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2 iEYEARECAAYFAlWAf5sACgkQUrwpmRoS3uvu8gCgm5UFxJwDDIrioITUlV+0YHrI PSsAnjfG3S3SrKmt/8W361Ee+rYl2WVb =9obp -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
