Mail.app has been unable to log onto smtp.gmail.com since November 14. That's probably when I went from mavericks to yosemite. There had been no password requests. Mail.app automatically used another smtp server when I sent messages from my gmail pop account. I noticed only yesterday that I wasn't logging onto the smtp.gmail server. I used google instructions and mac-forum tips for account preferences in case anything was wrong but still could not log onto the smtp server. I removed the google account from mail.app and started over. First I made screen shots of the account preferences, in case google's instructions didn't work for me. Yosemite is supposed to set up a gmail imap or pop account automatically of you supply your user name and password. Again and again, it said they were invalid. They'd been valid for pop an hour ago and were still valid for web mail, which said pop was activated. After several failures, yosemite said I'd have to do it manually. Until an hour ago, I did, but now I couldn't log on to either server. I logged off and went to an empty user account in yosemite. When I told mail.app I wanted to set up a google mail account, it was the same story, my user name and password were invalid. Is there any way to have gmail pop/stmp with mail.app under yosemite?
