The only reason that they did was because they knew that the country was essentially "protected" by a treaty with Britain and France. Unfortunately, neither of the two countries bothered to do _anything_ to help the country out. Poland was left to defend against Germany on its own for a while, and did it very well I might add, stalling the country's advance, until the Soviet Union's deal with Germany kicked in and they attacked on the country opposing and vulnerable border. Poland has been forced to defend itself against these two superpowers on many occasions in its history. They had successfully repelled the Bolsheviks in 1920 for example proving that on equal ground, they were a force to be reckoned with. Armies had to essentially _cheat_, something Germans are very good at, to defeat them. They might have been bothering them, but if that were true, it wouldn't explain why Hitler invaded the Rhineland, Austria-Hungary and the Czech Republic. Does history claim that events within their borders angered him or is it simply true that he was an expansionist who was looking for _any_ imaginable reason to attack his neighbours? Once Poland was reformed after the World War, Germany lost Poland's territory and had to concede territory that had always been theirs to allow Poland to have access to water. The Danzig area remained German and they claimed that they wanted to make some sort of highway to connect that area to Germany. It was merely propaganda though. Whether they had lost their territory or not, they would have attacked Poland and tried to conquer it one way or the other. Look at it this way: Hitler stupidly attacked his most powerful ally in Stalin. There are some facts from Alamagordo area during the early part of 1945 where the U.S. actually got three atom bombs from germany. A memo to the white house in May of 1945 said that it would take another year or more to get enough plutonium to make one bomb. Well, the U.S. detonated one of those at the Trinity site, and the other two were detonated in Japan. So it shows some thread of truth considering this certain plutonium supply problem.

Except that the reparations were paid off in 2010. It was going to take forever and make Germany miserable until paid but the rest of the world was trying to prevent the country from arming itself again and succeeding at that plan. Germans didn't like the way their standard of living significantly dropped and who could blame them but it was deserved. It's possible that the Germans still living in Poland were being abused and killed, I'm not denying the possibility because there are definitely going to be hatred as a consequence of the fact that Poland didn't even exist during the First World War and was instead a German territory. That literally turned my world upside down. Germany used two on the eastern front, but Stalin was like a madman and shot any russians that didn't go forward. He succeeded in kicking the germans butts finally. But there was a limit on using them too close to home. There was another documented item at the trinity test site where one of the scientists wanted to know if the uranium bomb would even work, not the plutonium one which was already tested, and the scientist got his answer that germans already used two in Russia. Those events were kept classified for some reason for a very long time. The last two were used in Japan and they weren't made from plutonium. It took the u.s. a year or so to make another atom bomb back then. In a ways, I wish that genie was never let out of the bottle.

Germany was at least 3 years away from the bomb when the war was over. Germany was more advanced than the US in several ways, like airplanes, rockets and submarines. But germany had no working nukes, and it was years away from them. They had not even enough heavy water to build a single nuclear reactor, at that time needed to breed plutonium or enrich uranium

The U.S. in May of 1945 was over a year and a half from getting enough plutonium to may one atom bomb, not two. It was a memo to the President at that time. The german U-235 (not a pun either) has three Uranium bombs on board in gold plated cansisters. One was used at the Trinity site, and the other two were used on Japan. And two before that were used on the eastern front... and the Russians far outnumbered the Germans and kept on coming ... too close for Hitler to use those anyway. Again, your history for the masses was pure pap by revisionist historians.

For one thing, the Soviet union had a near infinite amount of soldiers. It didn't matter how many Germany shot down because more would pop up to take their place. Also, Germany would unprepared for the battle on Soviet ground. They were sure that they would take down the Soviets before winter came so when they didn't, their men were forced to endure -20 to -40c temperatures with very few layers of protection. The weather took down as many Germans as the Soviets killed. Their equipment was also unable to endure the cold and their vehicles in particular had to be warmed up for hours before use. The Soviets, used to the climate, were a lot more prepared. Finally, even though the Nazis were at one point just kilometers away from taking Moscow, they were suddenly re-routed to Stalingrad so that Hitler could bruise Stalin's ego. Sure, there was a stalemate near Moscow which was killing off the Germans, but had they kept on, the capital and therefore the country would have been theirs had Hitler not decided to try to conquer a relative useless place like Stalingrad. Oh, and Hitler also refused to retreat. A colleague hasn't ever mentioned it unambiguously, but the oblique references are that his family was one of the Germans who were kicked out of Austria after WW2...today, we would call that 'Ethnic Cleansing'. And on my own travels, was shown this memorial marker: <http://www.huntzinger.com/gallery/index.php/EU/2009-Chzech_memory> Its in CH; can't recall the specifics, but I believe it was raised in memory to Germans who were citizens of the CH but were nevertheless killed in their home town ... basically "revenge" killings and also WW2 vintage.
