You might like to look at the Linx 1010B: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Linx-1010B-10-1-Tablet-Black/dp/B014D847FS which includes a keyboard and two full-size USB ports. Runs the most recent version of Windows-10 without problems. Windows-10 also runs on a 2008 laptop here. As a Nexus-7 owner (2013) I'm very disappointed that Google is offering far less than even Microsoft does. I can run Win-10 on a 2008 dual core, 2 GB laptop, but I can't (it seems) be allowed to run official Android 7 on a 2 GB, 4-core tablet. -- Cheers, David Web: http://www.satsignal.eu

I don't really doubt that the Nexus 7 hardware would be capable of running Nougat, so it seems to be meanness on their part, and make me more likely to drop Android for a Windows 10 device. That's the only way to vote, by not buying their products. If they were really serious about wanting a greater take-up of Nougat, why not follow Microsoft's example? I'm very happy with Windows 10 and am running it on both my current laptop and my old HP cheapie one. My current laptop has touch screen, so I know how Windows 10 works with touch. Tim.

I can run Win-10 on a 2008 dual core, 2 GB laptop, until an automatic update bricks it for you. I've got a reasonably new Surface Pro 3 (yes, hardware and software by Microsoft) which is running Windows 10. I can no longer use an uSD card in the uSD slot because if I leave it there it drains the battery in less than 10 hours. There's no way to revert the update which causes this problem. Thankfully I don't use the webcam, and I don't posses a Kindle Paperwhite. > but I can't (it seems) be allowed to run official Android 7 on a 2 GB, 4-core tablet. But it will at least continue to work, running Android 6. Or would you rather that Google forced the update without adequate testing, and just hoped it didn't brick the device?

Is the uSD perhaps set up as an extension of main memory (RAM), that might explain the behaviour you're seeing. Can't you go back to a previous Restore Point or uninstall the update(s)? You do know that you can prevent automatic updating in Windows 10, don't you? What happens if you Hibernate instead of Sleep? > Thankfully I don't use the webcam, and I don't posses a Kindle Paperwhite. > > > but I can't (it seems) be allowed to run official Android 7 on a 2 > > GB, 4-core tablet. > > But it will at least continue to work, running Android 6. > Or would you rather that Google forced the update without adequate > testing, and just hoped it didn't brick the device? If an update bricks the device, then Google fscked up big time. *And* there should be a mechanism to 'unbrick' a device, at least when (first) backing up to a computer. Let's face it, Google's update mechanism is broken by (non-)design and there is no need whatsoever to defend/excuse any of the involved parties, not google and not the device manufacturers.

The two Linx tablets I have (one 7-inch and one 10-inch) have both been through several major OS upgrades without problem. Indeed, the 7-inch started as Win-8.1. Have you reported the SD card problem to Microsoft? Is it's well known enough it may well get fixed. As I said elsewhere, if there's a genuine reason why the Nexus-7 can't run Android 7 (e.g. the processor can't run the instruction set required, not enough RAM, not enough CPU power [4-core required]) then that's a fair enough reason not to offer the upgrade. If a third party can offer Android 7, why would not Google? Otherwise, pure marketing and it stinks. -- Cheers, David Web: http://www.satsignal.eu

Lucky me, then. The little Win 10 netbook I have (an Acer device) is endowed with only 32 GB of (semiconductor-based) fixed storage, hence has insufficient free space to permit Windows Update to update the OS (as confirmed in person by a local Microsoft Store's "genius" tech'n (yeah, I know: Genius is an Apple trademark; I just don't know what MS calls them). So I'm immune to such problematic updates. (Is that an unalloyed good?) Cheers, -- tlvp -- Avant de repondre, jeter la poubelle, SVP.

Whatever the usb stick trick you have in mind may be, my MS guru tried something like that, too, and found he was still a good 2 GB shy of the HD free space he required. Thanks. Cheers, -- tlvp win10 should ask to use a usb stick if there's not enough room, which there is so it shouldn't need to. or you can just use windows media installer directly.

Perhaps you should consider it a feature and not a problem. SEVERAL times in the past my Windows machines have broken or lost something I liked because of an update. I do keep one W10 box updated for my critical stuff (taxes, finances, etc.) but with my two 32GB W10 tablets for example I have turned off updating and am running on the version that came from the factory. If it ain't broke... Various Internet articles show you how. But many also say that MS can override your changes against your will at any time. So far that's not happened to me (knocks on wood).

That wasn't anywhere near half enough to get 20 GB free, though. Cheers, -- tlvp -- Avant de repondre, jeter la poubelle, SVP.

You can also use an external USB driver, or possibly SD card, with the Media Creation Tool: https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10 for a bigger upgrade like the Anniversary Edition. -- Cheers, David Web: http://www.satsignal.eu
