I guess avoiding the term altogether will do no good, as every student 
will come across it sooner or later on Google. Better prepare them.

You can't really avoid the topic when teaching interfaces. The Java 
tutorial is quite clear:

"Multiple inheritance of implementation is the ability to inherit method 
definitions from multiple classes. [...]  Default methods introduce one 
form of multiple inheritance of implementation."
